A dog tore itself from its mother at a beach and bit a six-year-old boy. Now the woman is sentenced for causing bodily harm, Nerikes Allehanda reports.

It was last June that the 25-year-old woman visited the beach in Karlskoga with her dog. Suddenly the dog lashed out and bit the boy on the head.

“NN (the woman) has told me that she held the leash tightly when she saw the ball that NN (the boy) was holding because the dog loves balls. This suggests that she was aware that something could happen if the dog got loose,” states the district court in its verdict.

It is also pointed out that shortly before the incident the dog bit a security guard, which according to the court should have made the woman realize that the dog “could be bitten in certain situations”.

In addition to causing bodily harm, she is also sentenced for breaching the Public Order Act. The penalty is a 60-day fine.

In addition, she must pay SEK 10,100 in damages to the boy.
