While blood supplies are at their lowest at the start of the year, many antivax refuse to donate blood. Some also shun transfusions from vaccinated people.

All French people, vaccinated or not, can give blood

I can’t, I’m not vaccinated“, “I gave all my life but I’m not injected, too bad“, “They can still wait for me, not vaxed, I can’t/don’t want to donate my blood“, “I keep my impure blood to myself“… On social networks, messages from the non-vaccinated about blood donation abound.

And for good reason: they accuse the government of having “bench” them from society and decree that they will no longer participate in the national blood drive.

While some do it voluntarily, others indicate that they can no longer because of their “non-vaccination.”

Words refuted by the French blood establishment:

Hello, we welcome all donors whether they are vaccinated or not.“, assures in a tweet the establishment.

    Disinformation and transfusion refusal

Some antivax go even further and lie about the composition of the blood of vaccinated people.

Vaccinated blood = shitty blood full of blood clots…“, decrees one of them on Twitter.

Still others refuse to receive blood from people vaccinated against the coronavirus.

This is the case recently of two parents who refused to allow their child to receive a blood transfusion from the donation of a vaccinated person. The 4-month-old baby, however, required an emergency operation.

Dangerous behavior, which sows doubt in the midst of a shortage.

For Dr Gérald Kierzek, emergency physician and medical director of Doctissimo, these beliefs have “no Sens“.

Everyone has antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, we have all been infected. Antivaxers should also be aware that vaccine messenger RNA, another unfounded fear, has a very short lifespan. I therefore encourage them, in the same way as the vaccinated, to go and donate their blood!”

To donate blood, all the information used can be found on the site of French Blood Establishment.
