Larian Studios announced the extensive Patch 6 in Baldur’s Gate 3 for this week. The community was collectively of the opinion: It’s guaranteed to come on Valentine’s Day. But Larian Studios had other plans and sent Pingu memes in response.
As Larian Studios announced in a post, all Baldur’s Gate 3 players can look forward to Patch 6 and a huge update this week.
What the post didn’t say, however, was the exact release date of patch 6. It just said: “Love is in the air in Faerûn”.
Many fans interpreted this as a sign that the Valentine’s Day update will be released on February 14, 2024. However, they were wrong, as Larian Studios humorously pointed out to them.

User @dyingnome posted on X.com on February 8, 2024 with conviction: “Larian releases patch 6 on Valentine’s Day with new companion kisses. Trust me on this one, I know marketing.”
The next day the response came from Larian Studios. In the form of a Pingu meme that shows a penguin pouting while next to it says, “Well, now I won’t do it anymore.”
When user SergeantDaynes humorously remarked that the patch would now come on February 13th or 15th “out of spite,” there was another Pingu in response. This time one who stares at the viewer with a fixed expression and in close-up:
But this wouldn’t be the last penguin from Larian Studios. Valentine’s Day came on February 14, 2024 – but the patch didn’t come.
Instead, Larian Studios gifted players with one last Pingu on X.com. This time someone lying in bed laughing diabolically. The game studio wrote: “Sweet dreams”.

How did the players react? In the last Pingu post, many users complained that the patch actually didn’t appear on Valentine’s Day. Some also asked that the gaming company would have mercy on releasing the patch on Valentine’s Day, since they would have stayed at home to test out the new kiss animations directly.
But some also admitted that Larian Studios made it clear with the first Pingu that the patch would not come on the expected date – and actually didn’t mention a specific date in the announcement.
