Baldur’s Gate 3: In the final act you can increase your attributes, but you have to pass difficult checks to do so

Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a way to increase your attributes in the final act by using the Mirror of Loss. However, this requires passing difficult skill checks. We’ll show you how to make sure you pass the checks.

Where is the mirror of loss? You can find the Mirror of Loss in the third act in the House of Sorrow, which you have to find for the quest of Shadowheart, Daughter of Darkness. The house is located in the northwest of the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate.

There are also some challenges that await you in the house, but we won’t go into them in this article. Instead, we’ll focus on how you can get +2 to attributes of your choice through the Mirror of Loss.

This is how you can pass the religion check effortlessly

What exactly can I do with the mirror? By using the mirror, you can receive a permanent +2 bonus to any attribute of your choice in exchange for your memories. To achieve this, however, you must pass a difficult Religion check of 25.

Every character can use the mirror, which means you can really boost your stats. However, you also get a debuff, which you can remove with the Break Curse spell.

How do I complete the check? The check is not a problem for you if you save beforehand and keep reloading the old save so that you can complete the check at some point. However, for Honor mode (no save scumming possible) there is a trick that a player named Historical_Age_9921 shared on Reddit to pass the religion check almost always.

What kind of trick is this? The key to passing the skill checks is proper preparation and class choice. First of all, you take your character to Withers to reset your class and choose a new one.

This is how you do it:

  • Make your character a cleric
  • Push your intelligence to 16
  • Choose Religion as Proficiency
  • Take the Guidance magic trick with you
  • Multiclass: At level 2, select Rogue and select Expertise in Religion
  • Level up to level 12 in Rogue, choose Attribute Enhancement as your talent to increase your Intelligence to 20
  • If you don’t have a bard yet, change your class with another character
  • Now you give your cleric/rogue Guidance and Bardic Inspiration, which means you can almost always pass the check
  • Why does the whole thing work? You get +5 to your Intelligence roll, +8 to your Expertise, at least +1 to Guidance, and at least +1 to Bardic Inspiration.

The Rogue gives you the Reliable Talent class feature. So if you do a skill check with a skill that you are proficient in, the lowest dice result is always a 10. So if you roll a 2-9, a 10 is automatically calculated. This means you are guaranteed to get 25 in the skill check if you don’t roll a 1. A 1 is always an automatic failure.

A notice: Some players are reporting on the Reddit thread that there is a chance that the mirror will lose interest, which will then prevent you from receiving the bonus. In this case you can reload the save (except in Honor mode).

Afterwards you can go back to Withers and respec without losing the permanent buff.
