Anger about the return of Zeist’s nightlife, but: ‘There is nothing and that is really a drama’

Anger about the return of Zeists nightlife but There is

A group of residents is going to court. They state that the return of night catering is against the municipality’s policy. Zeist has an extinction policy. If a club or pub leaves, no new one should be allowed to take its place.

The municipality of Zeist said in a response yesterday that it concerns a “passive extinction policy”. This means that if a new business is opened in a building, night catering is no longer allowed. But that would be possible in an empty building, because the old zoning plan applies.

That really hurts the residents. They say the municipality has promised that nightlife will not return. They are afraid that they will soon be awake at night again due to noise pollution.

The summary proceedings will probably take place in early November. The judge will decide in a provisional ruling whether the night catering industry can remain until the final ruling. It is not yet clear whether the summary proceedings will focus on both Club Backstreet and Café Ladada. In any case, the residents hope that the municipality will be corrected and that the night catering in the 2e Dorpsstraat will come to an end.
