Alexander Isak strikes away against PSG in the Champions League

New Champions League match – and new success for Alexander Isak.
The Swedish striker gave Newcastle the lead away to PSG after 24 minutes.
But PSG came back and equalized in extra time.
– Many say that it is just a “tap-in”, but it is important to understand that. Really well done by Isak, says TV4’s expert commentator Olof Mellberg.

Newcastle are in a bad way in the Champions League and victory against PSG was a must for Alexander Isak and his teammates to have a reasonable chance of progressing from the group stage.

When the starting eleven was presented, it was clear that Alexander Isak will start for Newcastle.

And it was PSG who had the first chance when Ousmane Dembele whipped in a cross from the right and caused a mess in the Newcastle defence.

Fabian Ruiz stormed forward and pushed off, but he and Kylian Mbappé were on the same ball and the Spaniard’s finish went high, high over.

Mellberg: “Appropriate of Isak”

After ten minutes of play, Alexander Isak had a great position.

Newcastle broke high in the attacking half through Miguel Almiron and he sent a cross into the penalty area. The Swede had to stand clean and shot over.

But Isak took revenge. Gianluigi Donnarumma returned a shot from Miguel Almiron and Isak stayed in front, making it 1-0 and the first goal of his career in the Champions League.

– Weak intervention by Donnarumma, but careful by Isak, says TV4’s expert commentator Olof Mellberg.

After 65 minutes of play, PSG had a great chance. Bradley Barcola met a pass from Kylian Mbappé and finished with a strike. Nick Pope was responsible for a cannon parade.

Shortly afterwards, PSG called for a penalty after Achraf Hakimi fell in a duel with Anthony Gordon, but after a VAR review the verdict was acquitted.

Kylian Mbappé equalised

But that was not the last VAR review in the match. Because in stoppage time the French received a penalty after a hand situation.

– If that becomes a penalty, I completely lose faith in the rule of thumb, Olof Mellberg said in the broadcast.

It was a penalty and Kylian Mbappé scored 1-1, which was the final result of the match.

In the final group stage, Newcastle face Milan at the same time as PSG clash with Dortmund.
