The story begins with Julianna (Julia Roberts) and Michael (Dermot Mulroney). In college, the two decide that if they should, they will get married within the next 28 years haven’t found the love of their life. When the deadline expires, Julianna is still searching.

Things are different for Michael: in just four days he wants to marry the wealthy Kimmy (Cameron Diaz). Julianna is shocked and realizes that she feels more for Michael than when she wants to admit it. Without further ado, she travels to the festivities and decides to prevent them at all costs.
Since the film is told from Julianna’s point of view, Kimmy takes on the role of the antagonist first. Spoiled and naive she is portrayed. As soon as Julianna starts showing off her best friend’s girlfriend, however, the sympathies shift, which leads to an interesting tension.
My Best Friend’s Wedding is not only a classic romantic comedy, it’s also a important key film in Diaz’ career. She consciously plays with a role type that is often underestimated and smiled at at first glance. Gradually, however, she imbues her character with deeper characteristics.
