after the legislative debacle Emmanuel Macron invites party leaders

Two days after his defeat in the legislative elections, Emmanuel Macron goes to the front. The Head of State lost his absolute majority in the National Assembly. He invites the political forces to the Élysée this Tuesday, June 21, and until Wednesday. After Sunday’s nightmarish result, the French president wants to regain control.

His silence was deafening. Twenty-four hours after the legislative slap, Emmanuel Macron is trying to get back behind the wheel. The Head of State wants, in the words of the Élysée, ” dialogue and exchange for the higher interest of the nation “.

The Republicans (LR), the National Rally (RN) and, of course, the components of the New Popular, Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) will therefore march through the salons of the presidency.

These one-on-ones are meant to be an outstretched hand from Emmanuel Macron, trapped by the scores from the left and the far right.

The newly re-elected president has no choice. He must return to the arena: his government is weakened, his Prime Minister on borrowed time, his second five-year term in danger.

So Emmanuel Macron will no doubt also take advantage of these meetings to sound out the right on the possibility of agreeing on certain reforms and, why not, imagine future agreements. Ideal scenario, optimistic, for the executive, now condemned to deal with stronger opposition than ever.
