Aces end sponsorship with Russian owned Norilsk Nickel

Norilsk Nickel, a Russian-owned metal processing company in Harjavalta, is one of the major sponsors of the Aces. Aces are severing co-operation over Russia’s hostilities.

Pori’s Aces will end its cooperation with its major sponsor, the Russian-owned Norilsk Nickel Harjavalta.

Norilsk Nickel, a metal processing company in Harjavalta, has been one of the most significant and prominent supporters of the Aces in recent years. The Aces broke off yesterday, and Norilsk Nickel’s name will no longer appear on the Aces jersey.

CEO: The only possible decision

CEO of Aces Mikael Lehtinen describes the decision as a cumbersome but only possible outcome.

– In Ace, we can’t just close our eyes to the plight and destruction of Ukraine. At this point, I would like to express my humble thanks to the staff of Norilsk Nickel Harjavalta Oy for their long and good cooperation, Lehtinen says.

Judgment for war

Aces condemn Russia’s hostilities in Ukraine. At the same time, the team playing in the puck league emphasizes that people with a Russian background should not be discriminated against. The ace has had several players and coaches from Russia over the years.

Norilsk Nickel is one of the owners of the Jokers club in Helsinki. The Jokers recently dropped out of the Russian KHL season due to the war that began in Ukraine.
