A setting in Baldur’s Gate 3 could massively affect your gaming experience

The full release of Baldur’s Gate is imminent, but some players have already tested the title extensively in Early Access. There they noticed a setting that experienced D&D players may want to disable.

What is this attitude? The Karmic Dice let you play with loaded dice. The option affects all rolls in the game. It actually serves to help players who are particularly unlucky.

If you’re on a streak of bad luck, you should be less likely to roll too many low numbers in a row with the karmic dice. However, players advise disabling the default option to start the game as soon as possible.

What was the problem with the Karmic Cube? As a Reddit user reports, he built a tank for a series of defensive playthroughs in Early Access and quickly reached an armor class of 23.

According to his calculations, it should have been “almost impossible” for most opponents to hit him. Instead, the user akdavidxy observed a hit rate of 30 to 40%. He began gathering more data and found that the Karmic Cubes seemed to compensate for his armor class.

So he conceded significantly more normal and critical hits than intended. The Reddit user summarizes: With his tank he received up to 4 times more damage than intended (via 3DJuegos).

According to Larian, this was a bug that should be fixed for the full release (via GameStar).

Why is it still worth taking a look at the options? However, one Reddit user reported “a bunch of other” problems caused by the Karmic Cube, without elaborating on them.

Other players point out that it would be an option for D&D newbies. You’d wish the setting wasn’t automatically enabled, or at least more prominently visible in the menu (via Reddit).

So if you value the “right” D&D feeling, including all the frustrations, you should first check for the release on August 3 whether the Karmic Cubes checkbox is ticked and, if necessary, deactivate the setting.

Baldur’s Gate attached so much importance to the right feeling that extra specialists from film and television were hired, who also made sure that everyone involved felt comfortable with the explicit scenes – of which there can be quite a few in Baldur’s Gate :
