The police have cordoned off a large area in central Örebro after a suspicious object was found outside near a gate on Sunday morning. The national bomb protection has been alerted and residents must be evacuated.

– It is not possible to exclude in any way that the object is dangerous. It is the bomb protection that has made that assessment, says Lars Hedelin, press spokesperson at the police in Bergslagen to TT.

Residents within the cordoned off area must be evacuated from the site. To what degree and how it will happen, the police have not made a decision yet.

– Now it is saving lives and preventing injury to third parties that applies. We have to make sure that no one gets hurt and later we have to go into any threat image and the like.

The police are on site with a number of units with emergency personnel and it will be replenished with specialized personnel.

No one is a suspect so far.

Last Saturday, another suspicious object was found in a stairwell in Sörbyängen in Örebro. However, it did not contain any explosives, the police wrote on Sunday morning.

– We see no immediate connection to yesterday’s event, but it is too early to say anything about it now, says Lars Hedelin.

A VMA went out to the public and a total of three stairwells had to be evacuated before police bomb experts could deal with the object at eight o’clock on Saturday night.

Saturday’s event was initially classified as preparation for public destruction. On Sunday morning, it changed to illegal threats. On their website, the police write that the object “did not contain any explosives or other dangerous components”.
