Veteran Republican Senator Mitt Romney will not seek re-election in the 2024 congressional elections, US media reports.
In a video statement published on Wednesday, the 76-year-old Romney says he wants to make room for “a new generation of leaders” and calls on the top candidates for next year’s presidential election Joe Biden81, and Donald Trump77, to do the same.
In his video message, Romney defined that critical issues for the United States include the growth of the national debt and the climate crisis, says news channel CNN.
– President Biden and not former President Trump will lead their parties to solve these problems, Romney said according to CNN.
Romney said he would be well over 80 by the end of next term.
