The Swedish Food Agency warns: We eat too much salt in Sweden

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The Swedish Food Agency, which recently made a compilation of Swedes’ salt consumption, believes that salt consumption must be reduced.

– In Sweden, we are used to a lot of salt in our food. When Swedish chefs compete internationally, they must reduce salt by at least ten percent, says Åsa Brugård Konde from the Swedish Food Agency

Every fifth heart attack and every tenth stroke in Sweden is caused by eating too much salt. The goal from the Swedish Food Agency is for us to get down to six grams a day, which corresponds to a teaspoon of salt.

– It only takes about four weeks to get used to a lower consumption, so ideally the entire population should decide to “lower the salt” for a month, says Brugård Konde.
