1983, the march for equality and against racism

1983 the march for equality and against racism

Their names are Nsar and Baïda Doghmane, Hanifa Taguelmint, Farid Lahoua or Toumi Djaïda and they came out of the northern districts of Marseille or Minguettes in Lyon to march in search of equality. We are in 1983 and for the first time they go together to Paris to talk about the violence of everyday racism, the tensions with the police, the attacks and the assassinations. Forty years ago, an anti-racist and peaceful march left Marseille on October 15 and arrived in Paris on December 3. A delegation of young people, considered immigrants, was then received by President François Mitterrand.

If one of their demands on the residence card succeeds by becoming unique and ten renewable, the government does not respond to all their demands: equal treatment before the courts and the police, the right to housing, to work and education remain fundamental issues for French society. 1983, the march against racism, is a documentary by Daphné Gastaldi, produced by Valérie Nivelon and directed by Sophie Janin and Robin Cussenot.
