18 years later, the John Wick star is still fighting to make the sequel

Keanu Reeves is Neo and John Wick. But alongside these action and sci-fi behemoths, his role as the most laid-back exorcist of all time from Constantine is being hailed by fans. John Constantine (Reeves) is someone who has seen hell. As a wanderer between the realm of the devil and the world of the living he fights demons which in the end press down on the earth with ever-increasing force. Rumors about the son of Satan are circulating. And somehow the policewoman Angela (Rachel Weisz) has something to do with it. In addition, Constantine has terminal lung cancer because he smokes what feels like 1,000 cigarettes a day. He is the most casual but also most cynical exorcist in the world.

The wonderful adaptation of the DC Comics template has not only been celebrated by many fans since its release in 2005, but also by Keanu Reeves himself. “I love this world and this character“, he explained on Variety’s podcast The Big Ticket in 2019. “I just had incredible fun with this character.“

At last it seemed quite as if he should get his way. Warner greenlit DC sequel Constantine 2 in early 2023. Then the sequel was apparently withdrawn. According to current statements, the fantasy horror sequel should now appear.

When is Constantine on TV?

Constantine is coming this Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10:25 p.m. on RTL II. In addition to Reeves and Weisz, Peter Stormare (The Big Lebowski) and Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive) can be seen in front of the camera, among others.
