Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to personally participate in the G7 summit, which begins on Friday in Hiroshima, Japan, according to information provided to Bloomberg and the Financial Times.

In the past it has been said that he will participate via link on Sunday, but according to sources with access to it, he will instead participate in discussions on site that day.

The idea is that his participation should be able to secure support from more countries, such as India and Brazil.

However, the visit may still be canceled for security reasons, according to the informants. Since the beginning of the war, Zelenskyi’s travel plans have been kept secret until the very end for security reasons.

A spokesperson for the Japanese government repeats earlier information that Zelensky is expected to attend the meeting via link. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited Ukraine in March.
