Zelenskyj fires public prosecutor and head of security

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj kicks state prosecutor Iryna Venediktova and head of the security service Ivan Bakanov, writes The Guardian, referring to the president’s official website. She is replaced by Deputy Prosecutor General Oleksij Symonenko.

The Ukrainian news site Euromaidan writes that the reason Bakanov was fired is that he mismanaged his job.

It must have led to “human death or other serious consequences or created threats of such consequences”.

It is unclear who will take over from Bakanov.
