Diabetes is very common. The cause of the disease is insufficient or no production of insulin hormone for any reason, or the body tissues become insensitive to insulin. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes mellitus, which has many different types and usually occurs in individuals over the age of 35-40. Studies have shown that a carbohydrate-heavy diet after the age of 30 causes diabetes. Consumption of high-starch foods such as potatoes, bread and rice should be restricted for health reasons.
BE AWARE OF DIABETES
CARBOHYDRATE NUTRITION SHOULD BE REDUCED TO 10 PERCENT
Professor Joan Taylor, a diabetes specialist at Leicester De Montfort University, blamed current NHS dietary guidance. She states that carbohydrates such as potatoes, bread, and rice should make up more than a third of what we eat. But speaking at the British Science Festival, Professor Taylor wanted that to be reduced to just 10 percent.
STARCH FOODS MUST BE REDUCED
Eating less starchy foods can cause people to lose weight – greatly reducing their risk of type 2 diabetes. It will also help ‘lower normal’ blood sugar levels.
STARCH INCREASE THE CALORIES RECEIVED
Starchy carbohydrates tend to be calorie-dense, which is why they’ve been blacked out over the past few decades. Professor Taylor said: “Bearing in mind that the NHS recommendation is about 35 percent, if you can get it down to 10 percent, then not only are you losing weight, which is good for metabolic syndrome and type 2, but your blood sugar goes down to normal.”
DIABETES CAN CAUSE Blindness
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body does not make enough insulin or when the insulin it does does not work properly, leading to high blood sugar levels. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to blindness, amputation, and coma.
HEALTHY DIET CAN PREVENT TYPE 2 DIABETES
The condition affects roughly 4.5 million Britons and more than 30 million Americans. However, it is feared that hundreds of thousands of people may be walking around with this condition unknowingly. Unlike type 1 diabetes, which is genetic, type 2 diabetes is mainly caused by obesity. It can also be reversed with a healthy lifestyle.
