You can no longer cowardly get ranked points in Fortnite by hiding in bushes

A popular but very cowardly strategy will no longer give you ranked points in Fortnite if you stay out of all fights.

What’s with the bushes? For years, a popular but cowardly strategy in Fortnite was to hide in bushes and trees instead of actively taking part in the fight.

While the field of participants thinned out one by one, some players sat motionless in a bush and used the time to write a message to their partner.

A 50-year-old Twitch streamer with the apt name “bushcampdad” even reached the highest rank in the ranked mode of the battle royale by remaining in a treetop in the decisive match and ultimately reaching 5th place.

No ranked points for bush campers

Why does bush camping no longer give you ranked points? On March 8th there was a server down in Fortnite, at the end of which Season 2 Chapter 5 started. Of course, the new season came as usual with an update that brought new content but also some changes.

As the patch notes for Update 29.00 tell us, these changes also include two adjustments to Ranked Mode. For one thing, Epic Games has overhauled progression to make it more difficult for players to reach the highest rank, “Unreal.” On the other hand, there are no longer any ranked points if you survive without taking any damage.

In the future, you will no longer be able to hide in a bush or tree right at the start of a round and collect points without having to fight a single battle.

“Finally that was it for campers”

How does the community react? On

  • touringsexe via X: “Finally that’s it for campers lmao.”
  • Safyy via X: “Now I can finally get good teammates and no drones.”
  • Other players explain that this change will directly weaken the streamer bushcampdad:

  • OshaHere via X: “No, bushcampdad is done.”
  • But some players also said that this doesn’t change anything. They would find ways to camp their way through the matches. One player suggested trying fall damage.

bushcampdad himself also commented on the change on X.com and wrote: “I was nerfed! Don’t worry, Chat, I’ve come up with a few new strategies.” It remains to be seen which strategies he will use to reach the highest ranks in the future.
