In December, a funeral was held in a church in southern Värmland. But just under a month later – when another funeral home was looking for a deceased person at the mortuary in Karlstad – it was discovered that the wrong person had been buried.

The funeral home had confused two deceased people at the mortuary, writes Värmland’s Folkblad.

– It is entirely our fault. With our routines, that shouldn’t be able to happen – but it did anyway. It is extremely tragic and fatal, above all for the affected families, says Anders Johansson, director of operations at Roland Andersson Funeral Home, to the newspaper.

Johansson tells how he immediately, when he became aware of the situation, turned to the vicar and cemetery director of the parish concerned. Both families were then contacted.

– They were of course shaken, but I feel that we have been able to have a good dialogue with them. Exactly how we solved the whole thing practically, I can’t go into more detail, but in the end we have reached a solution that both families have accepted, says Anders Johansson.
