Athletics: Almgren’s competitor is suspended for doping – on 18 occasions

26-year-old Kwemoi was suspended just before the World Cup in Budapest last year after the AIU examined his biological passport and concluded that he blood-doped himself on 18 occasions, AP writes.

This means that the 10,000-meter runner’s results going all the way back to 2016 are deleted. Among other things, he will lose fourth place at the WC 2019 and seventh place at the 2021 Olympics.

  • “It has been a deliberate, systematic and sophisticated doping,” writes the AIU, which suspends Kwemoi until August 2029.

Kwemoi was part of the same training group as, among others, Eliud Kipchoge, Faith Kipyegon, and Geoffrey Kamworor.

Andreas Almgren has qualified for the Olympics in both the 10,000 and 5,000 meters – the latter distance as recently as Wednesday evening at Stockholm’s stadium.
