World number one Aryna Sabalenka lost in the WTA playoffs – decided in the last match

Sabalenka is not at all happy with the conditions at the luxury hotels in Cancun and has had negative views on the arrangement and the course.

– I don’t feel safe when I move on the court, the ball bounces in a strange way, Sabalenka said a couple of days ago.

Sabalenka still has great chances to reach the semifinals and plays in her last match against Elena Rybakina who beat Maria Sakkari 6-0,6-7(4-7)7-6(7-2). In the Bacalar group, it could happen that three players end up with one win each and it will be a complicated set and game calculation to separate them.

“Still have a chance to move on”

– I suppose she played a fantastic match. I had my chances but didn’t succeed but still have a chance to progress from the group. I feel strong, says the hard-hitting Sabalenka according to the WTA.

The tournament will decide which of Sabalenka or Iga Swiatek will end the year as world number one.

In the final marathon game, Pegula needed seven match points before she could decide.

Pegula resents receiving comments that she does not hit as hard as Sabalenka, known for her power tennis.

– People don’t seem to think that I hit hard, like some commentators. Seriously, I don’t know why they say that. Maybe because it looks like I don’t? I hit flatter, I don’t hit as hard as maybe like Aryna, but I hit hard, says Pegula, fifth in the world ranking, according to Reuters.
