Work safety Uil flash mob in Rome we are not

(Finance) – Union initiative Uil this morning at Piazza del Popolo in Rome to draw public attention to deaths at work: 1,040 coffins were placed in the square, as many as there are victims in the workplace every year. Uil underlined that it wanted to urge the politics and the Government to implement all the measures necessary to strengthen prevention, invest in safety and sanction those who do not respect the rules. Also present was the general secretary, Pierpaolo Bomberswho read some names of those people who lost their lives due to failure to comply with safety rules.
Uil is at the government tables on job security, but “we are not satisfied because we would need concrete facts”, Bombardieri told journalists present in Piazza del Popolo. “We don’t need to waste time – he added -, we need to understand if there is the will to intervene on workplace safety. palliatives, there is no point in telling us that there is a partial acceptance of the things we asked for if everything is then postponed. If the human life it’s worth 20 points, we don’t accept it. We need to stop companies that don’t apply safety regulations, introduce workplace homicide and explain that profit is not worth human life. Politics and the Government are not doing it.”

“We announced it together with the CGIL a mobilization path in line with the platforms that we have presented for a long time on security”, recalled the Uil leader. “We have made one strike for the deaths of Florence – he added – I would like to remind you that a few weeks ago four people died in a single day and it wasn’t even talked about. We need to meet in Florence with our safety representatives and take stock again and see what happened with respect to the platform. And there we will also relaunch mobilization and strike initiatives. We don’t want to give up on safety. Our workers, the families who have lost their loved ones, ask us this.”

The meeting in the Tuscan capital is scheduled for Friday 22 March at Leopolda. 1,500 delegates and safety representatives from CGIL and UIL will participate in the assembly. The unions have already made it known that a national strike will be called with local demonstrations to be held in April (around Thursday 11 April).

CGIL and UIL will also be on the streets in Rome Saturday 20 April for a large one demonstration national “for the right to health, starting from the defense and relaunch of the national public health service, from the financing of laws on non-self-sufficiency, and from health and safety in the workplace. Finally, for a real tax reform and a real increase in wages”.
