The pro-Palestinian protests in the US are growing.

At universities in both New York and Los Angeles, police and protesters have clashed.

Hundreds of people have been arrested.

For over two weeks, it has been boiling at universities in the United States, thousands of students participate in the pro-Palestinian protests. There are still no signs of anger abating – quite the opposite.

Among other things, they demand that the universities stop doing business with Israel or companies that support Israel.

On Tuesday, the historic university building Hamilton Hal at Columbia University in New York was stormed and students barricaded themselves inside.

At night, the police counterattacked. Equipped with riot shields and duct tape, they entered and emptied the building. A large number of people were arrested.

According to New York Mayor Eric Adams, the students’ actions were led by “people not connected to the university”.

– There is a movement to radicalize young people, he said in an interview with CBS.

Also at City College, located near Columbia University, police and pro-Palestinian protesters clashed.

In total, around 300 people have been arrested at the two universities.

Lessons are cancelled

A few hours after the unrest in New York, similar scenes erupted on the West Coast.

At the University of California, different student factions clashed—pro-Palestinian versus pro-Israeli.

It’s unclear if anyone was injured or arrested by police, but the chaos prompted UCLA to cancel all classes Wednesday.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemns the violence, “abhorrent and unforgivable,” she writes in a post on the platform X.

Also at California State Polytechnic University, protesters barricaded a building.

When the police moved in, around thirty people were arrested. According to the university, 18 of those arrested are not students.

Student anger is growing – all over the country

On Tuesday night, riot police entered the protestors’ tent camp at Flagstaff University in Arizona. About twenty people were arrested.

In the past, around 1,200 people have been arrested during protests at the University of Texas.

At the prestigious Brown University in Rhode Island, the university management has chosen to meet the students. It has promised to hold a boycott vote against Israel – in return for dismantling its protest camp on campus.

A decision that caused great debate in the United States.
