Witness Beata about the ferry tragedy: “I wish I had made contact”

A mother and her child died after the tragedy on Silja Line last Friday.
The police are investigating the incident as a murder – and now new witness information is coming from the ferry.
I saw her and the child a few hours before the incident, says Beata to Fakt.

A ferry was on its way from Polish Gdynia to Karlskrona when a mother and child were seen falling overboard. According to the first reports, the mother must have thrown herself after her child.

Both died from their injuries and the incident is being investigated as a homicide. Beata was on board the ferry, and tells Polish Fact that she saw the mother and the child – just hours before the fatal tragedy.

– I remember thinking it was unusual to have such a big baby in a pram, but the boy may have had some disability, she tells the newspaper.

“Would be better if I stayed”

Beata says that she thought the mother looked tired and depressed. The two passed each other, but the encounter never went beyond that. She had just ordered food with her family when she heard what had happened.

– Now I wish I had asked her some questions. Contacted, whatever. I didn’t immediately get the impression that she needed help, but it would be better if I stayed with her.

Both the mother and the child were Polish citizens. The Polish Prosecutor’s Office has opened a preliminary investigation into murder and suicide. The Prosecutor’s Office in Karlskrona has also started a preliminary investigation into murder.

At this time, no one is a suspect.
