Parents were surprised to discover that their child’s first name, found by chance, was unique in France. An ultimately symbolic choice which pushed the director of an animal park, bearing the same name except for one detail, to offer the baby an annual pass, valid for a lifetime.
The story of their little boy’s first name, Marine and Aubry Coutant-Georget, a young couple living in Scaër in Finistère, will not soon forget it. They found it completely by chance and it was immediately unanimous. And as if that wasn’t enough, it turned out to be a unique first name in France. To better understand what happened, we need to go back a few months. While they were on the road, returning from a pregnancy follow-up medical examination, the future parents came face to face with a first name that caught their attention. “We were coming out of a ultrasound in Lorient and, in a roundabout, we encountered a Les Terres de Nataé vehicle”, explained the young mother to the daily Telegram. “I said: ‘That first name is great’ and we validated it straight away”added the father.
A first name never heard or given in France
The first name in question is Nataë. The parents were inspired by the name of the animal park Les Terres de Nataé, which is located in the town of Pont-Scorff, in Brittany, to name their son, born on November 14, 2023. To make the first name a little more personal, they replaced the acute accent with a diaeresis, typical of Breton first names. “We had never heard it before”, said little Nataë’s mother. And she was right, because by researching this first name, the parents realized that“There are no other Nataës in France, only one in Quebec.” If we are to believe the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee), until 2022, there was no Nataë registered with the civil registry. Only the male first name Natael, which is closest, appears in the registers.
Marine and Aubry Coutant-Georget have therefore found a unique first name for their child, which also has a meaning dear to their hearts. In Celtic culture, Nataé is the goddess of nature. A nature that is present in the daily life of this family, given that they live in the countryside, surrounded by animals. The little extra thing is that this first name also brings to mind the word “natality”. A term loaded with meaning for the couple, who struggled to conceive a baby.
An annual pass for life to visit the animal park
Hearing of this story in the press and through one of his employees, Sébastien Musset, the director of Terres de Nataé, wanted to meet the young parents. He then decided to offer a somewhat special birth gift, but which will undoubtedly satisfy the little one. Nataë growing up: an annual pass for life, to visit and enjoy the animal park at any time! Who knows, in this place, Nataë may also find inspiration for the first name of her future children.
