While WhatApp is working on using its service on a computer without going through the smartphone, the publisher is also working on strengthening security. Leakers from the WABetaInfo site have revealed that two-factor authentication will be introduced in a future desktop and web version. As for the version for smartphones, it goes through the use of a personal 6-digit PIN code.
The screenshot shows that it will be easy to disable the feature or change the PIN code. It will also be possible to define an emergency email address which will be used if you have forgotten your PIN code and you can no longer connect. It is not yet known whether it will be possible to use other means of authentication, for example Windows Hello.
For the moment, WhatsApp has not announced the official arrival of this function in the web and desktop versions of its service, nor when it will be available.
