On Monday, the government published a report highlighting the “shortcomings” of the Marseille IHU. A source close to Professor Didier Raoult gave us some secrets on this subject.
Medical and scientific excesses, prescriptions based on prohibited drugs… The accusations made against the Marseille University Hospital Institute for Infectious Diseases, directed until mid-July by Professor Didier Raoult, are numerous. In total, five facts could be criminalized.
A series of “medical and scientific excesses”
In the report, different practices are singled out. These include:
- “certain inappropriate medical and scientific practices widespread within the IHU-MI, which do not comply with the regulations in force and which may generate a health risk for patients, in particular during research protocols”;
- “deviations in management practices, which can generate harassment and ill-being at work”;
- “deviations in governance, which do not strictly respect the rules governing the foundations of scientific cooperation”;
- “a gradual deterioration in the institution’s financial situation”.
Several of these medical and scientific excesses could, according to the ministers François Braun and Sylvie Retailleau, be the subject of “criminal qualification”.
“The IHU is a pretty good student on the regulatory side”
Accusations, contradicted by a source close to Professor Didier Raoult interviewed earlier this morning:
” These accusations are ridiculous. We haven’t had a death within the IHU for 60 years, the only person who died being 75 years old. All our colleagues treat and act for the best of the patient”, indicates the member of the IHU Méditerranée, before adding “That in the case of the experiment on tuberculosis, it is important to remember that the patients were multi-resistant and that, as a bonus, the statistics turned out to be good, so there is nothing to repeat and above all we must recontextualize the essays. The IHU is a pretty good student on the regulatory side “.
As for the question of the financial situation of the establishment, the collaborator wants to be reassuring.
” We are in very good financial health, despite our research and past investments. Our assets amount to 55 million euros (building price) and our cash amounts to 8 million “.
It remains to be seen the facts and the fate reserved for the case by justice.
