Dentist Şahin Durmuş told you what you need to know about implant dental treatment.

WHAT IS DENTAL IMPLANT?

A dental implant is an artificial root made of titanium metal. It is placed in the jawbone to replace the root of the natural tooth. An artificial replacement tooth is attached to the implant. The implant acts as an anchor to hold the replacement tooth in place.

WHO CAN HAVE DENTAL IMPLANT?

Dental implants may be suitable for anyone if they are in good general health, have healthy gums, and have enough bone in the jaw to hold the implant. If the jawbone is small or not developed normally, bone grafting may be done to create the bone. A bone graft is a way of adding new bone to the jawbone. Whether a bone graft is needed or not is decided after the examination.

HOW IS A DENTAL IMPLANT MADE?

To see if dental implants are right for you, your mouth is carefully examined and X-rays of your head, jaw and teeth are taken.

In the first stage of the surgery, a dental implant is placed in your jawbone under the gum tissue. The gingival tissue is then sutured into place. As the tissue heals, the implant adheres to the bone and gums. It may take several months to heal.

In the second stage of the surgery, an abutment is attached to the implant. The abutment is a post that connects the replacement tooth to the implant. In some cases, the first and second stages of implant surgery can be performed in one step.

An artificial replacement tooth is made and attached to the abutment. Several appointments may be required to properly place the replacement tooth in the abutment.

THINGS TO CONSIDER IN DENTAL IMPLANT

When replacing several or all of your teeth, a fixed bridge is created to your dental implants. Bridge; It is a dental restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth by covering a non-toothed area. The bridge is held firmly in place by dental implants on either side of the missing tooth or teeth.

Since dental implants are placed in the jawbone, artificial teeth attached to the implants take on the role of natural teeth. Like natural teeth, implants need to be kept clean using a toothbrush and dental floss.
