Were raising the bar on the Hellblade II combat system

Juan Fernández, who is responsible for the combat design of the game, made ambitious statements about Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.

Senua’s new adventure Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, which received great acclaim especially with its theme, is one of the productions that has been under development for a long time. Only a few videos have been released for the game, which Ninja Theory announced at the end of 2019, and there are still many question marks on the way. Despite this, when we look at the statements made about the game, we see that the team is quite ambitious.

‘We’re raising the bar on the Hellblade II combat system’

One of these explanations was made by Juan Fernández, who is responsible for the fighting dynamics of the game. Fernández stated that they have made great changes compared to the first game, and that they have raised the bar with the combat system. In an interview with Vandal, the producer’s statements about the game are as follows;

“We did a lot of things well in the new game, but I think there is a lot of things that could be improved and changed. You should remember that the team working on Senua’s first adventure was incredibly small for this type of project, often about 15 people in the studio.

The things I was least satisfied with in Hellblade 1 were the lack of enemy diversity, the lack of long battles, the way the difficulty systems were adjusted, the enemies having a lot of health. We had a wide variety of attacks and combos, but the enemies really didn’t encourage you to use them. People found two or three moves they liked and repeated them over and over. In the new game, we made big changes in such parts and raised the bar in the combat system.”
