Wednesday on Netflix can we expect a season 2

WEDNESDAY SERIES. “Wednesday” has been a hit on Netflix since it went online on Wednesday November 23. But is it enough to hope for a renewal for a sequel? We take stock of the hearings.

[Mis à jour le 30 novembre 2022 à 9h24] Wednesday is a real hit on Netflix. A week after it was put online on November 23, Tim Burton’s series is achieving ratings successes: it has accumulated 343.230 million hours of viewing in less than a week and has risen without great difficulty in first place in the most watched series this week, ahead of 1899 (87.890 million hours of viewing). But will these figures be sufficient to renew the series for a season 2?

Wednesday season 2 : the news. For the time being, Netflix has not communicated on a season 2 of Wednesday. But in view of the hearings, this may seem like a simple formality. In comparison, the series Dahmerthe latest big success of the platform streaming, had just under 300 million viewing hours a week after it went live (September 26 to October 2) and was renewed for a sequel. The figures of Stranger Things season 4 part 1 were also similar to those of Wednesday more than a week after it went online (286 million viewing hours between May 23 and May 29). Judging by the audiences, it therefore seems entirely probable that Wednesday be entitled to a sequel. However, we have to wait to see whether the hearings of Wednesday are maintained over time and wait for the official announcement from Netflix to be fixed on the future of the series.

In addition, the writers are ready to offer a sequel to the adventures of the eldest of the Addams family. In an Empire interview relayed by Screeningthe series’ co-creator, Alfred Gough, reacted to the script possibility of a sequel for Wednesday :Miles [Millar] and I are discussing it. What is certain is that there is still a lot to explore in the world of the Addams family.” We will still have to wait a few weeks before knowing more.

Wednesday was expected at the turn, but Tim Burton has managed to seduce critics who praise the eight episodes available on the streaming platform. Allociné “loved it […] this series connected to 10,000 volts, which never stops changing form and genre”. Fantastic, horror, teen drama, thriller, there is something for everyone. For Télérama, this “teenage horror series seeks to make the big generational gap, and succeeds rather well “. For its part, Télé Loisirs salutes “a show bringing together all the codes of teen drama […] but we do indeed find the themes dear to the filmmaker”.

Critics are also positive about the aesthetics of the series. Wednesday, but also on the interpretation of the actors. Special mention to Jenna Ortega in the title role: “her investment is up to the character” for the media specializing in TV news, when Ouest-France believes that she “brilliantly carries the series on her shoulders”.
