Banned driver busted in traffic stop

A Walpole Island resident faces charges after an armed robbery on River Road, police say.

Walpole Island and Lambton OPP officers, aided by police dog, emergency response and tactics and rescue units, responded to a reported robbery involving a firearm about 10:30 pm Monday, police said.

The dog team led officers to a residence, where a suspect was arrested without incident, police said.

A 42-year-old Walpole Island First Nation resident is charged with robbery with a weapon and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. police said. He was held pending a bail hearing.

The accused’s name is being held to protect the integrity of the investigation, police said. Updates will be provided when they become available.
