Molano wins in Zaragoza on a stage promised to sprinters, before the arrival at the Tourmalet tomorrow.
This 12th stage, without any difficulty listed, promised to be played out between the “big thighs” of the peloton, putting the spotlight on the pure sprinters. Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA) and Jetse Bol (Burgos-BH), who started from kilometer zero, were the only brave ones to attempt a breakaway. The Alpecin-Deceuninck team of Kaden Groves, announced favorites, took care of keeping the two men at a reasonable distance. The Australian, who started a little too far in the sprint, was finally beaten on the line by Juan Sebastián Molano (UAE Team Emirates), perfectly dropped by his pilot fish Rui Oliveira (who finished 4th in the stage). Boy Van Poppel (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty) completes the stage podium.
Nothing to report on the side of the favorites, who rested in view of tomorrow’s Dantesque stage with the arrival at the Tourmalet, and in particular the passages at the Col d’Aubisque and the Col de Spandelles. Sepp Kuss keeps his red jersey, and Primoz Roglic took advantage of the intermediate sprint to take 4 bonus seconds, returning to 23 seconds behind Remco Evenepoel in the General Classification.

The Vuelta traditionally takes place after the Tour de France. For its 78th edition, the start of the Tour of Spain has been scheduled for August 26, of Barcelona, capital of Catalonia, more than a month after the arrival of the Tour de France (July 23). The finish of the Tour of Spain was set three weeks later, on September 17, in Madrid.
