Video game TV series ranked: from unpopular to popular

In recent years, some really good TV series based on video games have appeared. In a vote you decided which of them are the best.

While live-action video game movies and series have often sucked in the past, their quality has improved drastically in recent years. Fans used to roll their eyes at the new gaming movie and show announcements, now many are excited.

The reason for this is due to a whole range of high quality productions that have hit the market lately. We wanted to know from you which of the current TV series about games you like best and we received a large number of responses.

    This is Castlevania: The plot of the series naturally revolves around the famous vampire, Count Vlad Dracula Tepes. His beloved wife was falsely accused by the church of being a witch and subsequently burned at the stake.

    Dracula swore revenge and unleashed an army of demons upon the people of Wallachia, spreading death and despair among the population. Trevor Belmont, the last survivor of the Belmont clan monster hunters, faces Dracula and his demons. He is supported by his son Alucard and the magician Sypha Belnades.

    The animated series hooked viewers right from the first season with great animation, iconic characters from the games, and a solid story. The series received a 94% rating on rottentomatoes review site and 8.3 stars out of 10 on MIDB.

    4th place: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

    This is Edgerunners: Cyberpunk is set in a dystopian future in 2076. Night City is ruled by corruption, gang wars and an outright addiction to cyberware modification of your own body.

    The plot revolves around young David Martinez struggling to survive in the lawless city. After losing everything in a street shoot, he himself goes into the shadows and becomes an “edgerunner,” a criminal mercenary.

    The Cyberpunk TV series raised high hopes among fans when it was announced and probably didn’t disappoint. At IMDB, the series received a rating of 8.3 stars out of 10 and at rottentomatoes it even shines with a whopping 100% positive reviews.

    In your case, however, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners “only” made it to 4th place.

    This is The Last of Us: In 2003, a devastating fungal pandemic swept the world, causing the infected humans to mutate into zombie-like monsters. The plot follows bootlegger Joel Miller, who lives in the quarantine area in Boston a few years after the outbreak of the plague.

    He gets the job to bring the girl Ellie to the secret hiding place of the organization “Fireflies” because it turns out that she is immune to the plague. With the help of Ellie, the Fireflies want to develop an antidote to fight the disease. On their journey, the two not only have to defend themselves against attempted monsters, but also against other people.

    The more popular a gaming IP is, the higher the expectations of a film adaptation or TV series based on it. With a beloved game like The Last of Us, which has won countless awards, expectations were astronomical.

    The TV series tells the backstory of Witcher from the books when Ciri was just a kid. The show was buzzing and lead actor Henry Cavill first received a lot of criticism for his role as Geralt.

    In the end, however, he became a fan favorite and the series received good ratings on rottentomatoes (81%) and IMDB (8.1 stars). With you, the Witcher show made it to number 2 in the ranking.

    This is Arcane: The action of the TV series takes place in the utopian city of Piltover, built on the slums and fence. There live the oppressed and the exploited on whose backs the wealth and success of Piltover was built.

    As the story progresses, League of Legends fans will learn the backstories of many champions, but most notably the two sisters, Vi and Jinx. After many twists of fate, the two end up on opposite sides of the law, while Piltover and Zaun descend into chaos.

    The TV series was an instant hit, reaching #1 on the Netflix charts in 38 different countries. It also had an impact on the game League of Legends, because the popular characters from Arcane were suddenly played more often.

    The TV series shines with a rating of 100% and 9.0 out of 10 stars on review sites such as rottentomatoes and IMDB. You also really liked Arcane and took first place in our ranking.

    The previous TV series seem to be just the beginning. A number of shows based on video games are planned for the next few years.
