Växjö residents’ initiative: “We want Kronoberg’s castle ruins to be reopened”

A new civic initiative in Växjö now hopes that the government’s increased investment in the care of cultural environments can result in the opening of Kronoberg’s castle ruins, which have been closed to the public since the turn of the year 2022/2023 due to racial risk.

– We are an interest association in Växjö that is working to develop a plan for how the castle ruins can be used in the future with the hope of arousing greater interest in this cultural environment, says Jessica Waldem, initiator of the Facebook group Save the castle ruins with 156 members.

Wants increased funding to be used for the castle ruins

The plan is also to start an association that will put pressure on local politicians so that SFV will prioritize Kronoberg’s castle ruins over other grant properties around the country.

– We think the municipality should do more to convince SFV that Kronoberg’s castle ruins are a cultural landmark that is worth preserving and developing, says Jessica Waldem.

The government increases the Swedish Property Agency’s (SFV) grant for maintenance of subsidized properties by SEK 100 million. The purpose of the investment is to, among other things, be able to increase the scope of the planned and preventive maintenance of so-called grant properties.
