Utrecht – The fifties. Time of reconstruction, of radio series for the whole family, of variety evenings and French chansons. Nice and calm, right? That’s how it seems. We also had crises in the 1950s. Such as in the autumn of 1956, when the Hungarian uprising was crushed by the Russians. In the Netherlands, this led to enormous anger towards communists with riots in Amsterdam, canceled carnival festivities in Limburg and smashed windows in Utrecht.
