Invitational trips, well-paid side missions and secret lobby meetings. The Left Party wants to put an end to that in the EU’s institutions and is now presenting a ten-point proposal to tackle corruption.

This includes, among other things, a total ban on EU parliamentarians being offered trips and hotel stays from companies, lobby groups and representatives of various states.

In addition to that, the party wants to severely limit the possibility for politicians to take paid side jobs. V also wants the EU’s transparency register, where the activity of lobby groups is registered, to become mandatory.

– The EU requires the member states to fight corruption, but it is always better to sweep in front of one’s own door first, says V’s top candidate Jonas Sjöstedt at a press conference.

V now also wants Sweden to join the EU’s special prosecution unit, Eppo. Something that the party has previously been against. The government announced in January that the goal is for Sweden to join during the year.
