Utrecht municipalities are not (yet) implementing plans for wind energy, the province is taking matters into their own hands

Utrecht municipalities are not yet implementing plans for wind energy

Plans are being made in the province of Utrecht for the generation of sustainable energy, which is done in a RES (Regional Energy Strategy). In Utrecht, plans are being worked on within three RES regions: U16, the Amersfoort region and Foodvalley.

Together they must generate 2.4 Twh of sustainable energy. To achieve stability in the supply of electricity, a mix of solar and wind energy is needed.

In July 2022, the province called on municipalities to make more wind plans. After calculation it turned out that of those 2.4 Twh only 1.38 Twh is feasible.

To generate 1 Twh, about 60 wind turbines or about 1000 hectares of solar parks are needed.
