The US Embassy in Kiev announced that a transport plane carrying 90 tons of military equipment had landed in Kiev. The US sent military aid to Ukraine, which was on the brink of war with Russia. The US Embassy in Kiev shared photos of a US transport plane that landed in Kiev at midnight last night on its social media account. The embassy stated that the plane was carrying around 90 tons of military equipment, including ammunition to be used on the “front line”.
The embassy stated that the military support was provided by the order of US President Joe Biden. It was also noted that the USA has provided 2 billion 700 million dollars of aid to Ukraine since 2014. The embassy said both steps showed “how committed the United States is to helping Ukraine strengthen its defenses in the face of Russian aggression.”
Baltic countries Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania also announced yesterday that they will send US anti-tank missiles and air defense systems to Ukraine. In a joint statement made by the defense ministers of the three countries, it was stated that this step was taken to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capacity. It has been learned that Estonia will send Javelin anti-tank missile, Latvia and Lithuania will send Stinger air defense missile and other equipment to Ukraine. Previously, Britain had decided to send anti-tank to Ukraine.
Germany sends field hospital
Germany, on the other hand, is not in favor of arms aid to Ukraine. German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that there was a consensus within the government on the issue. Lambrecht said that sending arms to Ukraine is not constructive in the current situation and that the government should do everything in its power to alleviate the crisis.
Defense Minister Lambrecht announced that Germany will send a field hospital to Ukraine in February. The Minister of Defense announced that the cost of the aid, including the necessary training, to Germany was 5 million 300 thousand euros. Lambrecht said that Ukraine has already been given respirator support and that injured Ukrainian soldiers can be treated in German army hospitals.
NATO exercise in the Mediterranean
On the other hand, it was learned that NATO will launch a major naval exercise in the Mediterranean on Monday. According to the statement made by the US Department of Defense Spokesperson, John Kirby, the exercise, called Neptune Strike 22, will continue until February 4. The US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman will also participate in the exercise.
Spokesman Kirby said the exercise had nothing to do with concerns over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He stated that it was not designed in accordance with the scenarios that may arise in Ukraine and it has been planned for a long time. However, the Neptune Strike 22 exercise was not on the NATaO’s list of military exercises planned for 2022, as of December last year.
