US Marine Corps in Jämtland during the Aurora 23 military exercise

With Norway’s membership in NATO, the US Marine Corps has had a base in Trondheim for several years. There they have troops that rotate between being stationed both in the other Nordic countries and down in Europe.

Now, in connection with the Aurora 23 military exercise, an American battalion is to be moved from Norwegian Stjördal down to various parts of southern Sweden to participate in the exercise.

Nathan Knowles is the battalion commander and the one who leads the American part of the transport through the county.

– All the movements we make and all the coordination and planning we do show that we are completely in sync as partners and allies, he says.

He believes that possible NATO membership would not affect their cooperation with Sweden.

– Our job is to train together and work together, we have done that for several years and we intend to do that for many years to come.
