Urso Italy Egypt action plan on critical raw materials begins

(Finance) – The Minister of Business and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso met Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Ahmed Samirin, in Cairo and the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El-Molla.

In the context of the renewed relaunch of bilateral relations between the countries, Minister Urso – we read in the official note from Mimit – has placed attention on the synergies relating to the mining sector and critical raw materials.

On this topic, in full coherence with the renewed European and Italian legislative context aimed at achieving strategic and industrial autonomy, Urso “has gathered the full availability of the Egyptian government to stipulate bilateral agreements regarding cooperation both in the extraction of critical raw materials in Egypt, both in the first phase of on-site processing, ensuring concrete returns in terms of investments and employment.

To this end, we will proceed with a tight action plan that can bring concrete benefits to both countries. The ministerial delegations of the two countries will proceed to organize a bilateral workshop in the coming weeks, which will involve institutions, agencies and companies involved in the sector”.

“Italy and Egypt are committed to developing an industrial context that favors and accelerate strategic autonomy in the critical raw materials sector. Our country is ready to make its engineering and entrepreneurial know-how available to initiate synergies for extraction and processing in Egypt, to the benefit of both nations,” said Urso.

During the meetings, Urso also recalled how Egypt is among the pilot countries for which the Italian Government intends to enhance its business model, particularly focused on the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, through the implementation of projects already in place and in which high Italian specialization can make the difference.

“The Italian production system, made up above all of SMEs and of industrial districts, is also a useful model for the Egyptian economy – stated Minister Urso – On this we are ready for any useful form of cooperation and to encourage production localization processes in Egypt, especially in the manufacturing sectors which are affected by the costs of production and who need specialized and easily available manpower”.

Among the sectors of industrial cooperation, the most relevant are those of renewable energy, also in light of the fact that Italy will soon become the leading European producer of new generation photovoltaic panels; of digital, including the applications of Artificial Intelligence in the production process, advanced agriculture, water management and pharmaceuticals.
