unions disappointed by conference on wages

In France, six months after the battle over pension reform and in the midst of inflation, the government is trying to renew social dialogue. At the call of Matignon, a social conference took place this Monday, October 16 around the question of wages: the social partners, the government and economists gathered in thematic workshops before the Prime Minister made some announcements, three days later an inter-union demonstration far from having convinced.

Some of our fellow citizens tell us, we can’t get by, even if we work. » On the observation, everyone agrees, but on the solutions, the workshops on part-time work or equal pay for women and men, above all highlighted the differences between unions and representatives of employers. We therefore expected the Prime Minister to decide, but, she affirmed, “ Your discussions this afternoon have shown that we need a body to sustain our exchanges. I therefore propose the establishment of a High Council for remuneration. »

All that for this ! »

In essence, there is an urgent need to wait. The government refuses to replace social dialogue, she says. Marylise Léon, number one of the CFDT, expected better than a road map: “ What I note is that the government has shown much less timidity when it comes, in particular, to pension reform. From our point of view, it is a lack of ambition and it is a lack of concrete elements. »

Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT, is even more severe: “ All that for this ! The government explained to us that if wages were stagnating, it was because there was a productivity problem in France. I want to tell the government that a day of social conference for that, there is a serious problem with the government’s productivity. »

Six months after the adoption of the pension reform, this Monday the government showed that it could still bring together the social partners around it. On Friday, the unions showed that they could still mobilize in the streets.
