During the very first outdoor competition of the season hit Armand Duplantis to the best way directly. The Swedish world star set yet another world record, his eighth in his career, with his incredible jump of 6.24 meters in Xiamen, China.

But now a highly unexpected detail is being revealed that may have helped the pole vault star to the record height – and it’s making headlines in neighboring Norway. For the Norwegian television channel NRK has discovered that “Mondo” imitated a Norwegian success trick.

Since the 24-year-old won indoor WC gold, something has happened to his Puma shoes, which everyone has completely missed. Namely, a claw has appeared under the toes and it is identical to the shoes worn by the Norwegian superstar Karsten Warholm wore during the WC 2022.
– It was actually a bit cool. I thought no one had noticed, says Warholm’s coach Leif Olav Alnes to NRK.
Unexpected detail
Even Duplantis confirms to the Norwegian television channel that it has been “a mad scientist” who did something with the shoes. It is about the Norwegian Alnes, who has developed the new shoes with a claw together with Puma.
– I probably shouldn’t attribute the success to that shoe entirely, but it probably hasn’t made him worse. I have never seen Mondo pass the world record so easily, so I don’t think he will change his shoes now, says running star Warholm in a statement.

The successful Norwegian trainer Leif Olav Alnes now explains what the claw on the shoe is actually for and how it improves the athlete who uses the shoes.
– It ensures that you have longer contact with the ground and where the energy stored in the shoe pushes you when the center of gravity is as far forward as possible. It leads to the most favorable possible time to create momentum, he tells NRK and does not understand why no one has copied the shoe yet.
