Uldis was sleeping in the truck – when the landslide started

Latvian truck driver Uldis had just managed to get off his truck when the earth began to collapse. The only thing he took with him was a mobile phone, passport and shoes.
– Five seconds and I could have died, says Uldis to TV4 Nyheterna.

On Saturday, the E6 collapsed at Stenungsund. Three people were then said to be injured and an unknown number of vehicles fell into a hole a couple of meters wide.

One who went down in the landslide was the Latvian truck driver Uldis who was traveling from Norway to Switzerland to transport liquid chemical products to the plastics industry.

After a long journey, he parked to sleep. During the night of Saturday, he woke up in a panic – because the truck was parked right next to the landslide.

– Five seconds and I could have died, says Uldis to TV4 Nyheterna.

The shocked driver had time to put on his shoes and take his passport, wallet with ID card and mobile phone – before it was too late.

Uldis usually drives a truck for up to four weeks straight before taking a few days off at home in Latvia. He basically lives in his truck and keeps all his possessions in it. Clothes, computer and driver’s license are still there.

No information

Uldis wants to continue working – but without a driver’s license it is not possible.

He has also not received information about when he can pick up his things in the truck.

– Right now I don’t know. Maybe I’ll go home without the card, I don’t know, he says.

Uldis doesn’t know if he can get to the truck and collect his things or not. He also cannot understand why or how this has happened.

– I and all the other drivers are still shocked, he says.
