The Court of Appeal has decided to release two teenage boys who were detained on suspicion of a murder in Gävle last November, several local media reports.

The 17-year-olds have been detained since November last year, and the Gävle district court sentenced them to four years of closed youth care.

The sentence was appealed and in connection with the conclusion of the appeal court proceedings, the boys were released, indicating that they will be acquitted.

– I am happy and relieved about the Court of Appeal’s decision. He has been in custody since he was 16 years old – which has been overwhelming, says Sebastian De Ciutiis, the defender for the one 17-year-old, to SVT Nyheter Gävleborg.

The second 17-year-old’s defender says that it appears from the investigation that it is about other perpetrators.

– It is remarkable that the prosecutor has ignored it, says defense lawyer David Massi.

The Court of Appeal’s verdict is expected on Friday.
