Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s security advisor Akif Cagatay Kilic expresses sharp criticism on Twitter of Thursday’s action against the Koran in Stockholm.

“I strongly condemn the meanness that is committed against the Holy Koran in Sweden. This heinous act is an affront to democracy and freedom and is a crime against humanity. The Swedish government should review the laws, decisions and practices behind which it (the act) hides,” writes Kilic and adds that he calls on the Swedish government to “reason” and consider the issue.

Even UN chief António Guterres’ spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric expresses himself in a statement critical of the Koran campaign.

“Disrespect for holy books and places of prayer is unacceptable,” Dujarric stated on Thursday, stressing at the same time the need for “mutual respect”.
