TT-Line refuses interviews – responsible for the leaking vessel

The German shipping company TT-Line operates several routes to and from Trelleborg. Last Sunday, the ferry Marco Polo was on its way to Klaipeda, Lithuania, with an intermediate stop in Karlshamn, when the accident occurred.

The ferry ran aground between Hanö and Hörvik. It then continued for another three nautical miles before running aground again and becoming stuck. Thousands of liters of diesel and heavy oil have leaked into Pukavik Bay. But the shipping company refuses to answer questions.

“All information and an official statement with the latest information is available on our website. We are not available for personal interviews,” the PR department writes in an email.

In the statement, they thank, among other things, the Swedish authorities who assisted in the rescue work, and announce that they have personnel on site to help secure the ship. Furthermore, they write that the Dutch company SMIT has been hired for the work ahead of an imminent salvage from the site.

The shipping company has been criticized, among other things by residents of the area, for choosing to run the route inland from Hanö.
