Peter Navarro, an adviser to Donald Trump when he was president of the United States, has been convicted of contempt of Congress. He is convicted on two counts, each of which can carry up to a year in prison.

Navarro is convicted of refusing to cooperate with the committee that investigated the storming of Congress on January 6, 2021. He has persistently maintained after the 2020 presidential election that Trump’s loss was due to widespread election fraud.

Prosecutors have argued that Navarro acted as if he were above the law.

– The accused chose to ally with the former president Donald Trump instead of being questioned, said the prosecutor Elizabeth Aloi.

Navarro is the second Trump adviser to be convicted of contempt of Congress. Previously, Steve Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison.

Navarro’s sentence will be announced in January next year.
