Trenitalia and Leidaa together against the abandonment of animals

(Finance) – Also this summer those traveling with their own four-legged friends can choose the train as an ideal means of transport for tourism and leisure. An initiative included in the Summer Experiences 2023 of the Passenger Pole of the FS Italiane Group and confirmed today during a press conference in Milan organized by Trenitalia and LEIDAA, the Italian League for the Defense of Animals and the Environment which has been dealing with the defense of animals and the environment for some time.

The occasion was useful to present the initiatives in support of the transport company and the association through the interventions of the Honorable Member Michele Vittoria BrambillaPresident of LEIDAAAnd Louis Corradi, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Trenitalia. Initiatives that are already giving initial results with over 140,000 pets on board Trenitalia trains from January to May (+75% vs. 2019) and the offer of free pets on Frecce and Intercity for travel until 15 September. Furthermore, on the Regionals, the Italia in Tour promo can be associated with the transport of the animal free of charge.

“L’abandonment – recalls the hon. Brambilla – it is a cruel, cowardly and despicable act. It breaks the pact of love and friendship that we have made with the animal welcomed into the family. Your everyday friend can’t become a burden just because it’s time to go on vacation. There are a thousand ways to always stay close. One of these is taking the train, where the limitations of the past have long since disappeared, also due to the fruitful dialogue between animal rights associations, LEIDAA in particular, and the main Italian society for the management of passenger rail transport. The dog or the cat they can be taken anywhere: the vacation it will be more beautiful”.

“The question of who goes in vacation with your four-legged friend is growing and Trenitalia has activated a series of initiatives to facilitate the holidays of families and their pets. In this way we wanted to further strengthen our attention to the customer, who is increasingly at the center of all our decisions, offering him the opportunity to make travel free, on board our trains, dogs and cats. A concrete action to support the anti-abandonment campaigns already active in our country” declared Luigi Corradi, CEO and General Manager of Trenitalia.

A summer therefore that promises to be dedicated to the train and in general to intermodal solutions with buses, ferries and planes to enjoy holidays without the stress of private vehicles. A choice already confirmed by the first data of the spring bridges and the first ones weekend summer and Trenitalia’s estimates on summer flows in Italy, both to and from great cities of art both for those who choose medium and small instead locality with a strong one scenic and cultural attraction. Suffice it to say that 225 million passengers were registered in the first five months of the year (+24% compared to 2022) with a significantly higher number of bookings for the month of July than that of July 2019, the last pre-Covid summer , which concerns Frecce (+50%), Intercity (+27%) and Eurocity (+59%).

This summer there are more than 10,000 train connections per day and around 19,000 bus journeys between Italy and Europe offered by the FS Group Passenger Hub to travel in the name of sustainability, combined with comfort and safety.
