Train collides with excavator

A train has run into an excavator between Vagnhärad and Södertälje, Mälartåg writes on its website.

– There must have been a collision between a Mälar train and a vehicle at a railway crossing at Hölö, says Erik Söderberg, press spokesperson at MTR.

According to the police website, the person in the excavator was taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter, awake and able to speak.

– The excavator operator was out of the excavator before the rescue service was on the scene and is being looked over by paramedics, says a press spokesperson at the rescue command center.

Traffic has been at a standstill since a quarter past three and it is currently unclear when traffic will resume.

According to the police, around a hundred people are on board the train, but no one is said to be injured.

The train will be evacuated.
